They call me "Shawn - The
Computer Guy". I opened my first computer business in 1995 in Fairbanks,
Alaska, where I was born and raised. I lived in North Carolina for
four years where I received a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science
from the University of North Carolina in 1985. I moved back to Alaska
where I married my sweetheart Stephenie, and we had two children. I worked for the University of Alaska for thirteen years at the Polar
Ice Coring Office (PICO), Facilities Services, and the Center for
Distance Education.
I was a Systems Administrator and Programmer at PICO installing and
maintaining their Novell/Windows Network, as well as designing and
implementing the VALIS relational database system used at the remote
sites of Greenland and Antarctica.
I was also a Systems Administrator and Programmer at the Facilities
Services department managing their centralized Novell/Windows Network
where I installed, and managed their fileserver, email server, web
server, calendar server, as well as User training and support for a
staff of 100+.
I
also designed, wrote, implemented, and maintained the Aurora
Integrated Facilities Management (IFM) system in Delphi and Foxpro.
IFM is a relational database Work Order System consisting of Work
Order Generation, Labor Entry, Timesheet Generation, Vehicle Rental,
Equipment usage, Preventive Maintenance Inspection, Shop
Stock/Material charges, Accounts Payable, Warehouse Inventory, and
Purchasing Systems. The IFM consisted of almost three million lines of
code in 6000 modules and programs, which used 1100+ relational and
non-relational databases.
The winters finally took their toll on our family. We moved
to the Southeast in mid 2003 where I continue my passion of building, repairing and programming computers, and enjoy the warm weather with
family and friends.
I am 60 years old and
have been in the computer industry for almost 40 years. I am a
Certified Novell Administrator, Microsoft Certified in Windows 98, XP,
Vista, 7, 8, 8.1, 10 and have earned several programming certificates.
I love what I do, and I hope it shows!
